Born in 1994 in Cameroon, Alida Ymele is an artist who lives and works in Douala. In 2019, she obtained a professional Master's degree in Plastic Arts at the Institute of Fine Arts of Nkongsamba (University of Douala).

Her artistic practice explores the precariousness, the fragility of the human being and the socio-professional universe of the daily life of domestic women, as well as their difficulties in integrating into today's society. Alida expresses herself through her self-portraits, portraying herself in photos and images of women whom she photographs in particular postures, in order to magnify these "black queens" who assert themselves in so-called small business activities.

Ymele has also participated in numerous collective exhibitions including (non-exhaustive list):

  • "Artistic interferences" - Annie Kadji Gallery (Douala,

  • 2020 and 2021),

  • Sonsbeek to Arnhem (Netherlands, 2021),

  • "Woman Power" - Bandjoun Station (Cameroon, 2018),

  • "New spirit" - Paradise (Douala, 2019).

Her artistic practice is an ongoing exploration that revolves around the daily life of the domestic woman.
