Cameroon officially called the Republic of Cameroon, is a country in Central Africa. Its political capital is Yaoundé, in the center of the country, but the main city is Douala, a seaport through which most of international trade passes. Its area is approximately 480,000 km2 and its population is approximately 25 million people.
Cameroon concentrates a bit of everything that the continent has to offer in terms of geographical diversity and culture, with 250 ethnic groups present: it is also nicknamed "Africa in miniature" and it is said to form "All Africa in one country ”!
Both Christian (40%), Muslim (20%) and animist (20%) depending on where you are, Cameroon is also anglophone and francophone.
The country was a German colony from 1884 to 1918, then, after World War I, it was administered by the United Kingdom for the western part and by France for the eastern part. In 1960, the former French colony became independent, however the part administered by the United Kingdom had to wait the following year to gain its independence, followed by the reunification of the country. The two zones still stand out today as English-speaking and French-speaking provinces.
Cameroon is a very culturally rich country which allows the development of great creativity on all media of contemporary art and inspired by its traditional art.
