Located in the westernmost part of the continent, Senegal is bordered by Mauritania, Mali, Guinea and Guinea-Bissau. It surrounds The Gambia, a small English-speaking country. With a tropical and dry climate, Senegal has 16.7 million inhabitants, a quarter of whom live in the Dakar region (0.3% of the territory).

This West African country is divided into 14 regions. The official language is French, but we also speak Ouolof, Peul and Serer. The population is of Muslim, Catholic or animist faith.

Senegalese culture has long been described by literature known throughout the world, especially through Léopold Sédar Senghor, both poet and statesman, champion of negritude and emblematic figure of the Francophonie.
